The students from NJU’s School of Journalism and Communication, with their feature “Lost Lovers: An Analysis of 500 Homicide Cases of Female Victims,” finally won the silver prize in “China Data Content Competition,” held concurrently with “China Data Content Conference,” both in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on December 19, 2020.
The conference was jointly hosted by Zhejiang University and Data-Viz.cn with Sina as the strategic partner. The organizers invited guests from the academia and industry to share the use of data in various fields and the trend of content production with data empowerment.
After the sharing was the award ceremony of 2020 China Data Content Competition.
Due to the participation of professional media, the competition was fierce. NJU Truth Records, the medium of the School of Journalism and Communication, submitted its entry, “Lost Lovers” (and the writers were Wang Shihan, Ni Yiwei, Chen Huijuan, Zhang Ningxin, Li Chenhui, and Wang Andi).
The work won silver prize of Best Data Application.
Several excellent works of the school media including New Trend, Real Data, and NJU Truth Records were on the shortlist for the prize, and the Prize for Active Participation was conferred on the School of Journalism and Communication.
“Lost Lovers” analyzed the homicide cases posted on China Judgments Online that happened between couples and lovers. The writers hope that this data journalism could objectively present the features of homicides between intimate partners and take a rational tone in the public discussion of this issue.
