An undergraduate from NJU’s School of Journalism and Communication became one of the ten winners of the Excellent Student of Journalism Award at the award ceremony of the 7th Fan Jingyi Journalism Education Awards, held in Beijing on November 23, 2019.
Besides the ten students, there were one winner of the Excellent Teacher of Journalism Award, and two winners of the Friend to Journalism Award.
Jia Wei, NJU award winner, was the only student winner who spoke at the ceremony.
This is the second consecutive time that students of NJU’s journalism school won this honor, and it shows our steady progress in improving the quality of our education.
Jia came to the School of Journalism and Communication in September 2016. He gained experience bit by bit from interviews, news writing, reporting, to different skills of journalism. He had participated in the operation of the school’s student medium and the NJU WeChat official account. Moreover, he engaged in the production of the “Letters Home” series podcasts which have received 27 million cumulative hits as of now.
As for drills and practice, he worked as an intern at the Counselors’ Office of the State Council, the Xinhua News Agency’s Paris office, and the UNICEF. He was once invited to give a speech at the Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2018 Youth Agenda Forum of UNESCO.
Jia was also the winner of the NJU Excellent Student Scholarship. He improved himself in practice and proved the merit of Chinese education with his professionalism. It is his unremitting efforts that bring him to this height of honor.

The Fan Jingyi Journalism Education Awards is the only prize for journalism education in China. It was set up by the Fan Jingyi Journalism Education Foundation and is awarded once a year. Thus, this award carries
great value. The foundation was jointly established by People's Daily, Economic Daily, China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Dazhong Daily, Liaoning Daily, Hainan Daily, and the School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University.
The awards include the Excellent Student of Journalism Award, the Excellent Teacher of Journalism Award, and the Friend to Journalism Award. The first award is for journalism students who are outstanding in both academic performance and cultural qualities and aspire to the industry. The second award is given to journalism teachers who pursue both professional excellence and moral integrity, and the third award will be conferred on journalism practitioners who contribute to the Chinese journalism education.
