An undergraduate of NJU’s School of Journalism and Communication won the nomination award of the University Student of the Year, as announced at the award ceremony of the “2017 University Student and Counsellor of the Year of Jiangsu Province,” hosted by Jiangsu Education Department and held in Nanjing on June 13, 2018.

Xu Miao, who entered university in 2014 and is about to graduate this year, is the paragon of the outstanding students of our school as she constantly strives for excellence.
She is the only undergraduate who won both the honor of NJU Person of the Year and the NJU Excellent Student Scholarship. She achieved a high GPA of 4.71 in her specialized courses, and finished her C9 League exchange program with straight As. During the one-year study in MIT, she got full marks for all the courses and managed to take part in the IoT smart home R&D project of the MIT Media Lab.
Meanwhile, Xu pays attention to the unity of knowledge and action and self-improvement in an all-around way. She is not only an energetic, outgoing girl, but also a righteous student who seeks social justice and fairness. As a journalist major, she edited and posted over 60 articles on the new media platforms of CCTV. She also participated in the production of public service advertisements under the themes of “The 19th CPC National Congress: Five Years of Forging ahead,” “The 19th CPC National Congress: Guli’s Chinese Dream,” and “The 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return to China: Joint Hands, Joint Efforts.”
Besides, she helped with the planning of the 2018 New Year public service advertisements, fulfilling her mission of “telling the Chinese stories well.”
She also took an active part in voluntary services. She sent necessities to the children of migrant workers and took care of the elderly towards the end of their lives. All her deeds have showed her concern for those in need.
