(The award ceremony)

Nursing Home is a documentary that faithfully records life in a village nursing home in Anhui province. It tells the stories of several elderly people, some with no children, others with children who are so busy with work that they have no time to attend to their parents. Though some of the elderly are still middle-aged, they have to stay at the nursing home because of their mental deficiency and lack of caring. The film also captures the last minutes of two elderly people.
The humanism and conflict inside the nursing home are captured in the documentary, and it prompts the audience to imagine the struggle of these aged residents when they were young. This work reflects the reality of old-age caring in today’s countryside in China.
“Time Recorded in Light and Shade”: China Academy Awards of Documentary Film is a grand professional documentary prize marked by its academic and cultural value and fairness. Since its launch in 2011, the competition has received entries from high caliber teams including CCTV, Xinhua News Agency and Tencent Video every year. The award is honored as “the Oscar for Chinese Documentaries” for its lasting and great influence on the industry, academia and many aspects of society.
