Synopsis:
Konstantin Paustovsky was a Soviet writer with a unique style, and his lyric works played an important role in the history of Soviet literature. The dissertation of “A study of the lyrical style of Konstantin Paustovsky” analyzed in detail the mechanisms that form the lyric features of the writer’s works, the uniqueness of his lyrical style, the relations between the style and the Russian literary tradition, and the style’s impact on later Soviet writers. Based on an analysis and his historical context, the dissertation discussed the special, irreplaceable role of Paustovsky’s distinctive styles and strategies of creation in his times, and then summarized the writer’s special position in the development of Soviet literature. The dissertation was the first one on this Soviet writer in Chinese academia.
Bio:
Dong Xiao is a vice dean of the School of Literature and Language at Nanjing University and a professor and doctoral supervisor in the field of comparative literature and world literature. He is engaged in research on Russian literature and relations between Chinese and Russian literature and in translation of relevant works. He published monographs like Approaching the Golden Rose: Konstantin Paustovsky’s Theory of Literary Creation, translations like Untimely Thoughts, and various papers. He is also a vice president of Jiangsu Society of Comparative Literature, a deputy director of the Foreign Literature Committee of China Association of Higher Education, an executive director of China Society of Russian Literature Studies, and a chief expert in the project of “A Study of the Compilation of A History of Russian Drama (multiple volumes) and Translation of Important Materials,” a major project of the Ministry of Education.
